RON HONOURED
Bathurst Regional Council recently investigated an appropriate way of recognising local residents who have made an extraordinary contribution to Bathurst and the Region. This Award is the highest honour the Region can bestow on a citizen. The recipient of the Award would be known and respected for their passion and commitment to many different aspects of life in Bathurst. The Award would be made for outstanding and meritorious achievement which has made a significant contribution to improving the quality of life in Bathurst and the Region. It is not an annual award and has no timeframe. It is only presented when an outstanding community representative, who shows leadership and service, is evident and needs to be recognised. Nominations for the Award, when appropriate, will be considered by Council. Initially the Award was called the Honorary Freeman Award for want of a better name. However, a suggestion had also come from the community that Ron Camplin should be honoured for his contribution to Bathurst and his enthusiasm for our community. As Ron’s accomplishments are an example of the criteria needed to receive this Award, it was resolved by Council to not only present him with this Award, but to name it after him. Ron was presented with the inaugural Ron Camplin Award at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre on Thursday, August 21st.

DEAR MR. COLE
On behalf of the Bathurst Rugby Club, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous donation, of a weekend for two in Canberra, for Club’s fund raising to support Carenne (Special) Public School. The Bathurst Rugby Club holds a Memorial Day each year to remember those players who are no longer with us and to raise money for a selected charity or cause in the Bathurst community. This year I am pleased to advise that we raised approximately $7,000.00 which will be presented to the School in the near future. The Club’s fund raising efforts are only possible through the kind donations received from individuals and business in our community. Once again, thank you for your support. Yours sincerelyJames Ovenstone, Memorial Day Coordinator, Bathurst Bulldogs Rugby Club.

2BS WINS BILLYCART CHALLENGE
The Bathurst Neighbourhoods At Play BillyCart Derby was a huge success at Mount Panorama. In the media challenge, 2BS’s Program Director, Jennifer Menchin driving for Bathurst Holden, scored a win over B-Rock Program Director and husband, Justin Coombes-Pearce driving for Clancy Ford. Plans are already underway for a similar event next year. Organisers were encouraged by the number of out of town competitors and entries from local juniors.

DEAR MR. COLE
The children, staff and families at S.D.N. Hamilton Street would like to say a big thank you for the support you gave to our Trivia Night on 2nd August through your generous donation. It was a fun evening and a successful fundraiser. We raised nearly $1,000 from the night, so that will help with the purchase of a large wooden Cubby House for our outdoor environment. Thank you again for your participation. Yours trulyGina Castle, Centre Manager, SDN Children’s Services Inc.
